Le paysage chez Robert Melançon: Entre milieu citadin et scène baroque

Abstract

Cet article interroge le paysage urbain dans Le paradis des apparences (2004) de Robert Melançon en mobilisant tour à tour les concepts de « milieu » (Berque) et d’« espaces mineur et majeur » (Desportes), qui invitent à une conception ouverte et dynamique du paysage. Soulignant tout d’abord l’intérêt du sujet melançonien pour les paysages « pauvres » de l’univers citadin, la réflexion se concentre ensuite sur l’importance de la médiation picturale et la valorisation toute baroque des apparences, des jeux d’illusions et autres trompe-l’œil dont fait son miel cette poésie par ailleurs pétrie d’une sobriété toute classique.

This article questions the cityscape in Le paradis des apparences (2004) by Robert Melançon by discussing the concepts of « milieu » (Berque) and « minor and major places » (Desportes) that foster an open and dynamic conception of landscape. It first highlights the subject’s interest for “poor” and marginal cityscapes, before concentrating on the importance of the pictorial mediation and the baroque valorization of appearances, illusions, and other deceptive trompe-l’oeil, which are the very matter of this poetry that may not be as classical and understated as it first appears.
