The upregulation of inflammatory mediators in the tear film during contact lens wear indicates that lens wear may induce an inflammatory response on the ocular surface. Previous research has investigated the relationship between lens wear and ocular inflammation through analyses of cytokine levels in tear samples. However, there has been little discussion regarding the interaction between contact lens materials and cytokines, and its role in ocular inflammation. This thesis aimed to study the release of cytokines from contact lens materials. Particularly, to determine whether the release of cytokines differed between silicone hydrogel and conventional hydrogel contact lens materials.en
